What is your art background?
I studied illustration at Brighton university, then went to the royal college of art to do my MA
Name a few of your favorite contemporary artists?
pierre huyge, panamarenko, peter doig, tal R, mark newport
STUDIO
Hand Drawing - one from a series of images based on a short story by katherine dunn
What is your artistic Process and when do you know a piece is complete?
the process for personal work and commissioned work is slightly different but are similar in that the work is a reaction to something, a piece of text, history something I see.
In my personal work I will often have a few subjects I'm interested in and I'll be researching and making drawings but it often takes a while for the work to manifest. its like there is an incubation period where all my thoughts are trying to link up and then something will act as a catalyst and ill produce the work quite quickly. often within the image making there is a lot of unknowns but that's why I like the idea of collage, making the different pieces find their relationship and form a narrative.
We will all be ghosts- new self published book available to buy at peepshop.org.uk
Do you do anything else besides art?
I teach, work with the collective peepshow, ride my bike and do things that most human beings do. I dont have any special hidden talent
Who is the one person you would love to collaborate with?
collaborations i have done in the past have always been drawing based and i found that pretty hard.it can feel like your trying to hard to impress someone or show off rather than make an honest drawing but drawing for me is quite a solitary thing
what i find interesting is collaboration with people working in different disciplines, so my ideal collaboration with be with someone who can weave, or a furniture designer of ceramics
part of a series of drawings create at island fold
Currently Reading/ Watching anything?
reading a few book s at the moment, the history of the tour de france
Do you dream often and if so do you have recurring themes?
i do dream most nights but am bad at remembering them. i did dream ( maybe more of a nightmare) the other day that i was married to Janet Jackson and we were having an argument because I didn't want to go to the family get together in the afternoon
Limbo- on ongoing series of paintings
