So this is a big one! Mike Perry is one of the top people I wanted to interview in the series next to David Byrne and Michel Gondry. Cross your fingers that I get the other two sometime soon!

What is your background in art?
Its my life and always has been. From the moment I had the coordination to pick up a pencil I was drawing, letting my imagination run wild. Altogether being creative which children usually are pretty good at. All of this time exploring my imagination sometimes through day dreams and sometime on paper in the form of epic battles between characters or bugs bunny characters participating in a plot line prepared me for a time when I would start to understand what it was that I was doing.
That moment came when I was 14 and my grandfather gave me an old tackle box filled with some of his old oil paints. I fell in love. Putting paint of canvas got me to art school and in college I became a kid again. Overwhelmed by the creative possibilities. I landed on graphic design because I looked at it as the medium that allowed me to do anything my mind wanted. So far I have been very surprised by the things I have made in my professional life.
What is the next step for you as an artist/ designer?
To keep moving forward. Making new things. Pushing myself.
Do you dream and if so do you have any recurring themes? Unfortunately I do not.

If you could have one superhero power what would it be?
This is kinda lame but I used to play Dungeon and Dragons and there was this awesome power where if you touched something you could see its entire history. I always thought that would be amazing. To see the past in things. It's not as cool as invisibility so I could spy on girls in the shower but that is what I would choose.
Do you think your environment affects what you create and how?
Big time. My studio used to be in my apartment in a room that got tons of sun light. But fancy problems lead to me having to find a proper studio which I love. The space is amazing but the only thing I wish it had was more direct sun. There is something about the sun that really makes me happy. My next studio will have tons of natural light.
