So I was going to stick to just showcasing good art on friday, but why should it just be one day?! While in London I was fortunate enough to visit the Saatchi Collection, which if you live near NY or are interested in the art world at all, you have probably heard about the huge protest/stink that surrounded the Sensation exhibition at the Brooklyn museum a few years back. This collection of British art, with heavy weights like Damian Hirst and Sarah Lucas (another favorite), caused a huge stir in the supposedly liberal city of New York.
There were several controversial artists with Chris Ofili's The Holy Virgin Mary at the forefront of the conflict. Well I sadly never made it to the show, BUT was able to see and purchase a book from the museum while in London, which brings us to my present blog.
Tracey Emin is a member of this group who uses herself as a form of art through crafting techniques and home-made art. In her work you are able to see who she really is and get tidbits about her life. She writes it, sews it, if she could scream it to the world I think she would. At first glance you wouldn't shout about her work, but as you get to understand it you realize she is connecting with you because she is you, she is every person. I am fan of her work to say the least.
Tracy Emin!!!
simplemente genial
