The Shiny Squirrel

the hunt...

So the hunt continued today for a new apartment. My journey lead me to Ave B and 4Th st next to this great little breakfast/lunch place called Kate's joint. I love the neighborhood and can imagine spending hours wandering around taking photos and drinking gooood coffee.

Sadly the girl who was renting a room in her apartment was a little less inviting. She seemed extremely anal and although the apartment was the size of a small box she wanted to pay 60 dollars a month for a maid. I let that go and tried to look around at the better parts, mainly location and price. Her priorities seemed a little out of whack besides that my room was ridiculously small and it had a loft bed. Can you imagine asking some new guy to shimmy up the ladder first to the full size mattress above? Not the type of *bachelor* pad I was envisioning myself in.

I am not in a bind or desperate at this point for an apartment so I will continue to look. The place in Greenpoint is still a viable option and if it comes up I am going to take it. My room was huge, there was certain amenities like cable, Internet, and space that are more important right now.  Vanessa is also definitely more on my level then this 30-something named Sharon who seemed a little too granola for my taste. Her bedroom was of course beautiful and I was living like a troll under the sink. she asked me if I had a lot of stuff...was she expecting me to just show up with a duffel bag and call it a day???

On the way back from the city this evening I opted for the train, which lead me to run into two girl's from High School who were both in law school. There lives seemed completely unglamorous and as they continued to talk about people I graduated with I realized everyone is doing basically the old humdrum thing. They are corporate suits or budding lawyers and work themselves silly while trying to move up the ladder..yuck!

Have you ever tried to navigate on the Diesel website? It is a maze of Flash and web design that I really can't be bothered with.  I just want to see the overpriced clothes and be done with it!

Have I ever spoken about the glory of Daryl K before? The shit just looks so incredibly comfortable and understandable I am surprised it is not in everyone closet. It is almost like a no brainer and works with the heels and converse. Look at that black dress with asymmetrical button up collar. It even has pockets, which in my opinion all dresses should have.  Trunk show here I come!

so the quest begins for an apartment....what a journey I am sure it will be! I started e-mailing people from Craig's List  and although I haven't received many responses I am extremely hopeful about finding apartment soon. New apts are posted everyday and the few I have been checking out in Greenpoint seem to be up my alley. My mom of course has her reservations, but I am going to tread lightly and see what happens.

I am hoping to make some appointments during my four day weekend  and see a few places, maybe one will be a prime spot. This weekend is four glorious days long and I am planning on cleaning my room and getting it down to the bare bones incase I do have to move on a short notice. I am so excited at the prospect of moving, it is really the only thing I can think about..besides growing horses!

Dana had sent me this funny growing horse in her last package so I tried it over the last 72 hours, the instructions say it is supposed to grow to 600 times it's original size in water! Amazing right?
Here are some photos of it's journey into gigantism. It is supposed to shrink outside of the water after a few days, it did get a little distorted.

Cute little company called Ok 47, they even have a squirrel shirt. It seems like recently they had this huge sale that of course I missed out on, but the little titles of the items sound great..everything said pinstripe, sparrows, and everything that seems to be in my trend field nowadays. I hate to sometimes follow a trend so closely, but then again there is a reason why things get popular...they are usually that good. I have jumped feet first onto some fashion trends recently including the legging and the ankle boot. I can't help myself and frankly I am not going to even try. Why fight such a good thing...

Wooden Mustache

I happened upon this new clothing line called Wooden Mustache today while looking through an old issue of Metro.Pop...I am actively getting rid of my magazine collection as one of the many tasks I must do before moving. On that note: my potential roommate lost her job yesterday and my mom keeps asking me why she won't give me a definite answer about the whole roommate thing. I understand wheres she is coming from, but am going to give the girl a wee bit of space and start looking in other directios...Craigs's List. I responded to multiple listings today and have decided Green point is in my price range and I liked the neighborhood. My search for an apartment still has a long way to go..hopefully the journey will only be a few steps and not miles.

Obviously from the million posts today I have spent the entire day online. Did you know Viktor & Rolf are designing a line for H&M? I am sure it will sell out as quickly as Stella McCartney and Karl Lagerfeld's collections did.

I can't say enough good things about Minhee Park at Paper Cup Design. Her website is adorable and I am completely envious of her collection.

I am on a blogging roll. Here are some goodies found at the MoMA store. However I am sure you can find these at way better prices somewhere else. The MoMA is ridiculously overpriced, but the buyers' sure know how to pick them. I really want nesting bowls for my apartment.

A girl's gotta dream, right?...that is me searching the Barneys website this afternoon. The website is just a taste of the store and everything is on sale. yummy!

I found this great hat designer named Victor Osborne and I love his hats very much, but his portfolio on the website is even better.

I am doing the inevitable thing that happens on Sundays. I look at my room and realize how messy it is and then as I am cleaning it I get completely sidetrack and start looking through magazines. However with a looming deadline of moving out, I really need to get to work. I have found a very cool chick who is putting out this fabulous book called Mushroom Girls Virus. The pictures on the internet I am sure don't do the book justice...
