Evah Fan has new artwork up that nearly has me jumping up and down in my room. I love her sculpture I think it just enhances her 2D work and creates a whole new dimension..both figuratively and literally. oooo lovely.
I was searching around Daily Candy today and found this new shop called Bitter Sweets that has opened in Williamsburg. The jewelry is absolutely delectable especially the Halloween vampire teeth that I have a special affinity for. I recently bought this great print and framed it..it looks fantastic!
I like the jewelry at the store even though it is a tad pricey. It seems to step out of the box and takes something normally associated with femininity and make it a little bit rough.
It has been awhile since I posted anything about what is going on in my daily life so I thought what better time then today to tell you the up to date facts.
Saturday morning I went to a lovely glass making studio in Newark, NJ called Glassroots and learned the art of making glass beads with a blow torch. I wasn't really looking forward to it, but actually had a great time and made these great white beads. I like mine because they aren't perfect and kind of look like something you would find on a beach.
I moved a majority of my belongings to Brooklyn yesterday. The experience completely wipped me out, I could barely drive home at 5:00. It was painfully hot coupled with carrying heavy boxes up a steep flight of stairs. I was fortunate enough to have great friends, Jen and Mike, who drove in a separate car to help me. I sat in my empty room yesterday and didn't want to leave.
After moving we walked around the neighborhood and ate Polish food at a restaurant called Mak. mmmmmm....Pickle Soup and Kielbasa w/ onions. The food was so good, I think I can feel a new craving coming on.
Saturday night, Claire and I, went to see The Weight at the Rodeo Bar on 23rd and 3rd. We drank great beer called, Lone Star, and watched an alt/country band while eating unshelled peanuts. I haven't been out in weeks so it was nice to get dressed up and be social for a change. I was hoping for mechnical bull, but I didn't see one...I MUST FIND A MECHINCAL BULL THOUGH!
So sometimes I get fixated on a designer and I want to see every collection they have ever done. It is great to see the evolution of their designs and where their inspiration might have come from at the beginning of their career. Alexander McQueen is my new favorite catwalk obsession so here are some Knit highlights from over the years that seemed worth mentioning. I love his play on volume and texture.
(These are not by season and in no particular order)
I found Anke Weckmann this evening while looking at Insurgent Muses' site this afternoon. There was a TV show in the late 90s called The Critic and for some reason these drawings remind me of the illustrating on that particular show. If you don't know it, it is very funny and you should check it out.
They are having quite a little sale over at Creatures of Comfort. They sell both Vena Cava and Alexandre Herchcovitch, which happen to be two of my favorite up and comers. I like the opportunity to purchase British designers that aren't normally offered in the states.
I have talked about my excitement for Viktor & Rolf's designs for H&M previously, but now I have some images to back it up! H&M seems to be referencing many things this Fall and all revolve around key items that make my heart pitter-pat just a little bit. The fact that plaid is coming back in a big way brings tears to my eyes, it also justifys all the plaid fabric I just purchased to make a dress.
It is sometimes hard to walk into an H&M without feeling completely overwhelmed by both the sheer number of product and the fact that half of it is on the floor. These photos present a lovely image of the goods, but will they really have any hanger appeal??
I like Miss Sixty especially the boots that are carried at Urban Outfitters. However I do think their stuff is a little bit pricey for what you are actually getting. If you haven't already noticed I am a coat and jacket fiend. I own so many my moms' always rolls her eyes when I buy another. I think they are the best accessory and really pull an outfit today. I am the girl walking down the boiling hot street with a cute Fall forward jacket just because it goes with my outfit. As Little Miss. Black Apple would say; " I'm an acorn"
Kate Sutton's website is just filled with so many great things. I had to stop looking through the website because my desktop was getting filled up with photos. I especially love her sketchbook that is presented in such a easy and clean fashion. I have my eye on that Pirate Pigeon!
I have posted about Ryan Pfluger before and honestly the more I look at his work, I just can't seem to get enough of it. His colors are brilliant and his subjects are enthralling. I recently found his website and although I can't downloaded the photos I like his new series a lot. They seem to be presented in the form of diptychs, which I think presents a better story for these "characters".
