Thank you Wayne Pate for being involved with The Little Interview. His work is incredibly charming and it was a real honor to have in the series. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I did!
What is your background in art?
I am a self taught illustrator so the experience has been a never ending winding road, I say that in a good way.
Over the years I spent a lot of time freelancing for Gap, Old Navy, J Crew and various other clothing companies so the majority of my work has been very commercial. In the spring of 2006 I decided to make changes in the type of work I was doing on a daily basis and since I was in a position to focus more on my own work and subject matter so I
leaped at the chance. In order to do this I needed to be able to support my own work so I set up a on line shop which I sell high quality silkscreen prints of my work which has turned out to be a good gamble.
WORK SPACE

WAYNE PATE
What is your artistic process and how do you know when a piece of work is completed?
Typical process starts from a written short list stuck to my monitor. The approach is determine by the desired emotion, look and feel of the subject matter in question. Technique wise I tend to spend a lot of time doing extra processes which
are repetitive so it takes longer to get the end result then might be necessary but I always stumble across new techniques that makes the end result a lot more interesting that what I started the piece with.
CURRENT WORK
Do you dream often and if so do you have recurring themes?
I don't dream. If I do I never remember them but I know I dreamt something.
Do you find that your environment affects your work?
Absolutely. For me my work space is just as important and the paper, ink, pens and brushes I chose to work with.
The mental effect ones work space has on them cannot not be disregarded.
WORK SPACE
I love Wayne Pate's work - especially that setting sun. His workspace is lovely.
